In a reality defying effort administration of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Thursday claimed restoration of emergency services and also returning of few senior doctors on work. However, the state-run medical institution still awaits additional doctors demanded to continue routine work at the hospital and the administration offered unconvincing statements to corroborate resumption of services.
“Ten doctors have reported to us and we have received information that few more have been relieved from other districts. Work has resumed and some patients have been attended in OPD and Emergency ward,” said Director RIMS SK Chaudhary.
The RIMS administration has demanded about 40 doctors to resume services as junior doctors of the hospital are on indefinite strike and have prevented seniors to attend patients coming to the hospital.
The strike has crippled day-to-day affairs at the premier medical institution and is an outcome of opposition to hooliganism by men in white who want absolute impunity for thrashing patients and whoever comes in their way of demeaning one of the noblest professions in the world.
The unbecoming of the doctors of RIMS and their wicked behaviour has been a cause for concern in the past as well. Due to the unjustified and deplorable acts of junior doctors, hundreds of patients returned from RIMS and the maternity ward is yet to become functional. “Situation is yet to become normal. We are witness to the grief of patients who are returning without treatment. They come and talk about their endurance and wonder why this profession which is known to provide succor to those suffering from illness has degraded to the level where it only contributes to the suffering,” said a tea stall owner at the entrance of RIMS.
lockout at RIMS entered third day and doctors neither appear remorseful for their act of attacking scribe of English daily nor apologetic for causing inconvenience to patients especially those coming from other parts of Jharkhand for treatment.
