RIMS' beds scarcity far from getting met

Despite of rounds of warnings from higher authorities, Rajendra Institute Medical Sciences (RIMS) - the highest State owned hospital cum medical college is yet to resolve the issue of bed scarcity.

Acting Director of the medical institution Dr RK Srivastava said that some more time was required to deal with this problem. Proposal of creating a separate unit with sufficient numbers of beds had been sent to HODs for final consent, he informed at the same time.

“Several factors need to be taken care of before issuing any instruction towards this. A written proposal has been sent to the Department Heads about establishing a separate ward with sufficient beds. The administrative wing is awaiting the decision of HODs. Within this month, some points will be definitely finalized about it. Hospital’s administrative personnel are keen to resolve this issue as soon as possible,” Srivastava added.

At present, status of Neurosurgery ward and Medicine ward in terms of availability of beds is quite pitiable. Regardless of several attempts, neither RIMS administration nor ministers could permanently resolve this issue. Since long, Neurosurgery ward has maximum number of patients undergoing treatment on floor, the condition of Medicine ward as well is no less than that of Neurosurgery ward. As per the records, the Medicine ward has the provision of merely 50 beds but here also the number of patients who undergoes treatment on floor is very high.

In spite of assurances to increase the numbers of beds especially at Neurosurgery ward from 110 to 250 wards, no serious attempts have been made towards this direction. An internal staff conveyed that the government owned hospital and college has approximately 1200 beds. But, the number of admitted patients is beyond 1500 at any given time here.
