A workshop on implementation of Right to Education and Health and the role of media was organised by the Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra, Hazaribagh and Oxfam India, Patna, in the seminar hall of loksamiti, Amritnagar. The workshop was chaired by Girija Satish of NBJK and anchored by Prabhunath Sharma of Oxfam India.
Elaborating the topic Sharma gave the data and survey reports collected by different organisations and said that though Government of India has framed rules for Right to Education and Right to Health but at ground level it is still not so much effective and even known. He said that media can play an important role in making the public aware about the rights of education and health provided to them by the Government.
Girija Satish said that though village local body elections has been concluded in our State but they are yet to get power, the pace of change will be noticeable only when the local bodies will become powerful of taking decisions. He also cited the example of Kerala, where three tier governance have successfully implemented.
Many mediamen of Hazaribagh participated in this workshop and expressed their views. Some blamed corruption responsible for all the evils of the State while some noted that people even in remote areas are now becoming more sensitive towards their needs and rights. Few insisted that media should try to focus on both sides of the coin. According to them, Government has given Right to Education and Health but to get it, one must adhere to his duties too.
It was concluded that media can make aware the people, but in the current era of commercialisation, it also needs help of some other agencies too and NGOs can play a better role in giving strength to the mediamen.
Brijnandan Singh, Vinay Bhatt, Saryu Mahto, Raghunath Giri, Jaffrullah Saddique, Pramod Kumar, Kunal Bhardwaj, Ajay Mishra, Murari Singh, Arjun Soni and many other distinguished persons attended the workshop.
