A cyber criminal took away Rs 25,000 from account of a retired bank employee after calling her up pretending as a bank official and seeking the details of her account at the Allahabad Bank Main branch.
The victim Putul Das has lodged a complaint with the Chutia police station in this connection on Saturday evening. Police have started looking for call details to reach to the criminal.
Das is retired as a senior assistant from NABARD while her husband SR Das is a special public prosecutor of Enforcement Directorate in the Ranchi civil court.
SR Das said that a criminal called his wife at around 1 pm and said that he was an official of Allahabad Bank. He added her account did not have Know Your Customer information and sought the details from her.
He said unaware of the designs of the criminals his wife provided whatever bank details the caller asked for and hung up. However, barely five minutes later she got a bit suspicious and contacted her bank to ascertain whether the caller was genuine.
The bank official denied making the call and said that he would check her account to see if everything was okay. Soon the officials said that money was being withdrawn from the bank. She requested the bank to stop any further payment but by that time around Rs 25,000 was already withdrawn.
