The recent endeavour of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation to keep the Capital city clean and free from garbage by launching a month long cleanness drive inaugurated by officiating CS Sajal Chakraverty, may just be eyewash, feel city residents.
This is not the first attempt to clean up the city stinking roads, all the efforts in past of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) and district administration to make capital city clean and tidy have failed miserably, say many. The clean streets and roads again become a mini- dumping yard as they grossly fails to ensure the proper garbage collection.
Aftab a resident of Hindpiri, which is considered as one of the least managed areas in terms of cleanliness, said, “We often hear about such drives but for us it is of no relevance. Cleaning here is done once in a blue moon day. We hope that this drive prove beneficial for us this time.”
Besides, Hindipiri, lohra Kocha, Nagababa Khatal, Old Ranchi, Edalhatu, Madhukum and Islam Nagar areas also share the same story. Garbage piled on both sides of the roads, overflowing garbage bins and unbearable stench.
“ The Civic body’s brooms only clean the lanes and gain enough popularity in local media and news channels but no one turns up to see these city’s these areas where cleaning is still like a silver lining for the people. Moreover, this drive cannot be completed in one month. It will take around 55 days to clean each ward thoroughly. We have asked our ward counselor to make effort in the removal of garbage heaps from this area,” said Kiran Kumari resident of Madhukam area.
Chief Secretary Sajal Charaverty with the aspiration to spread the message of cleaning one’s own environment door to door himself took up the broom and cleaned the Gandhinagar area along with some of RMC officials.
There are 55 wards and according to the plan the cleaning drive will be carried out in all the wards. RMC officials have assigned as many as 50-60 workers for collecting waste garbage and around 20 sweepers to sweep the roads.
RMC CEO Manoj Kumar sharing information about the same said, “This time all the areas will be cleaned. The neglected areas are listed on top of our priority list and we will make sure that the grievances of the people are addressed at earliest.”
