Residents upset with rising crimes; police claim decline

Following recurrent incidents of crime in the city including the one in which a girl was shot at by a jilted lover, incident of chain snatching leading to the death of a lady, attack on the NRI, husband murdering his wife and stashing the dead body in a trunk etc, denizens of Ranchi seem to be losing trust over functioning of Ranchi police. Police on the other hand, claim they have been working quite efficiently by adopting some of the latest technologies for policing purposes
“The boldness shown by criminals recently is shocking, as if they are not afraid of the police force. Police officials assure that they are doing everything to curb crime rates in the city but there are no apparent results to show for their efforts. Unsatisfactory response time and irresponsible attitude shown by cops has been a constant bother,” said Pawan Sharma, General Secretary, FJCCI.
On the other hand, Ranchi police claims to be performing better than it was in the past. Online FIR lodging, increased number of patrolling vehicles and other upgrades in crime-fighting have made the police force more efficient and effective, claim police officials.City SP Jaya Roy said, “With an increase in the number of patrol vehicles, we are now conducting more mobile patrols. Following several crimes reported in marketplaces and near business institutions, patrolling has been intensified in these regions. And we have been doing well as far as resolution of cases is concerned even if it takes time to do it right; exceptions are uncommon.”
“State Government has and is providing us with the latest crime-fighting technologies and facilities. Our response time has improved. Manpower and facilities have improved. We are better prepared to tackle crime and criminals compared to earlier times,” said Ranchi Kotwali police station in charge.According to complainants, insensitiveness on part of the policemen manning the police stations is to be expected.
