Passenger, express or goods trains from now will give long whistles and the engine crew have to be on sharp look out of people crossing railway tracks. These orders have been given to the Daltonganj railway station under East Central Railways of Dhanbad division because of a massive repair work of the foot overbridge being carried out in this station.
Daltonganj railway station superintendent GP Hansda said the passenger and express and goods trains’ drivers have been asked to be on 'sharp look out' and in total readiness to pull the brake in the event of emergency.
The foot over bridge was built in 1968. Its concrete slabs have started giving away. Hansda said the slabs were 'unfit' to bear the weight and pressure of thousands of passengers, goods/baggage every day. Hence a repair work has been started in which the fragile concrete slabs of this foot over bridge would be replaced by a new fortified one.
The work is being carried out overnight, hence, its expected to get complete by Tuesday night. Due to this the passengers have to cross railway lines to reach platform numbers 2 and 3.
