The power supply in Ranchi is likely to become normal from Monday. Officials of the Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam limited have yet again claimed that snags have been rectified and transformers at Hatia grid are almost ready for normal power supply in the Capital after almost a fortnight of inconvenience to the people.
Power supply plummeted after two out of four power transformers, each of 50 MVA capacity, installed at the Hatia grid tripped on April 24. While one was charged by Fridayevening but developed snag again in the want of technicians. Most parts of Ratu Road, Harmu, Dhurva, the areas spotted with dense population remained in dark for entireSaturday night.
“One transformer has been put on load and has been tagged with two feeders that will provide 30MW and it will address 95 per cent of the problem. Second transformer will be ready and everything will be fine from Monday,” said Managing Director, JUVNl, Rahul Purwar.
The two transformers will supply additional 100 MW of power to the city that requires around 270MW of power each day. As the city faced severely impaired power supply for almost two-week, officials of the department claimed that supply has been between 220-250MW and a power deficit city will become surplus from tomorrow.
Notably, after the transformers had tripped, two was brought back to life in the next 24 hours of getting tripped. But the remaining two could not be revived even after a lot of efforts by technical staffs of JUVNl thus pointing at the impending crisis because of lack of trained manpower in the newly designed transformers installed at the Hatia grid.
“The transformers were new and initial hiccups are always there when a system is there. The design is new and there are variations but we solved the problem within few hours. Then again it happened and we called people to rectify the problems,” said Purwar.
The JUVNl, barely a year old body, is trying to draw lessons from the embarrassing power scenario in the capital and across the State as short and medium terms plans are likely to be chalked out to address power woes in the State. The problems of manpower and infrastructure are likely to top the agenda for a better transmission and supply network to address electricity crisis. Sufficient backups are likely to be installed at all feeders in Ranchi.
“Ranchi will never face such problems and in two months everything will be improved. I am making short and medium term plan. Not only capital, rural and urban areas across Jharkhand will see a change,” maintained the MD, JUVNl.
Interestingly, water supply was affected badly due to erratic water supply from Hatia Dam nonetheless the JUVNl claims that they have provided sufficient electricity to water reservoirs in the city. According to GM JUVNl Ranchi, reservoirs have been supplied electricity from 18-24 hours depending on the transmission lines.
Massive renovation projects are also in pipeline to change the bleak conditions of power infrastructure.
