The education department has claimed that re-organisation of schools was essential adding that State is having surplus number of primary and middle schools. The large number of schools is proving a hindrance in providing quality education, it stated.
In a workshop organized by education department it was stated that primary schools were opened at every one kilometers and middle school at every three kilometers in order to meet the norms of the Right to Education. It added the number of school at many places increased sharply due opening of other educational centers.
It 2016-17 there were 39,000 schools in the department out of which the 17,000 were having less than 60 students. There were only one or two teachers in these schools. These schools faced several problems that directly affected quality education.
“One teacher was taking all the classes as well performing the task of admission of students. These schools also lack sports equipment, library, lavotary. These schools are unable to meet the requirement of RTE as well,” an official of the department stated.
It may be stated among the worst affected district are Palamu and Giridih in this regard. There are around 432 schools in Palmau and 244 in Giridih which have less than 50 students.
