Re-election for mayor: SEC to decide in few days

Published on:

Ranchi is all set to go for mayoral polls once again as the State Election Commission (SEC) is likely to take a decision on the election for the post of mayor of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) in few days time.

Despite going ahead with the schedule, the SEC had postponed counting of votes of mayoral election in the wake of recovery of cash which dragged incumbent mayor Khalkho into controversy.

The SEC is waiting for official communication from Raj Bhawan regarding cancellation of mayoral polls. “We have not received any official communication,” said State Election Commissioner, S.D.Sharma and any further action will be taken only after receiving the file.

Incidentally, Governor, Syed Ahmad gave his assent to the recommendation in a high-level meeting at Raj Bhawan on April 20.

The SEC is likely to be communicated the decision by tomorrow. “We will send them official communication as soon as possible,” said a source at Raj Bhawan.

The SEC’s recommendation was based on the findings of the report submitted to it by Income Tax department and other agencies investigating the matter.
