Road construction department (RCD) of Jharkhand is planning to construct a flyover on the old bridge of Barodaghat-Tatanagar station road in Bagbera to address traffic woes, after the railway's objection in constructing a new bridge on the stretch.
RCD authority is planning construction of a flyover at the spot on two kms-long Barodaghat-Tatanagar station road. RCD's executive engineer (Advance Planning) WQ Faridi recently visited the project site at Bagbera for survey.
Talking about the development of the project, Faridi said that with railway’s objection on moving of the three water pipelines that passes along the existing bridge, the only option remaining is construction of the flyover.
"As per our understanding, constructing a flyover is a need of the hour. Despite it needing extra expenses, we are planning a flyover to meet the traffic jam problems. We have already designed it, but a final decision is yet to be taken by the engineer-in-chief Rash Bihari Singh," said Faridi.
The two-kms long Barodaghat-Tatanagar Station Road which connects densely-populated Barodaghat area with Jugsalai, Railway station and other localities is hit by traffic chaos as the reconstruction of a small bridge in the middle of the road has remained incomplete due to objection by the railway.
According to information, the RCD wanted to reconstruct the existing bridge by raising its height by 15 metres, bringing its level to the newly-constructed road. However, the railway authorities raised an objection against the bridge construction work as they apprehend that the three pipelines which passes through the existing bridge which draw water from Kharkai river to a railway filtration plant for water supply in Tatanagar station might be affected with the new construction. This might lead to water crisis for about 4,000 railway residential quarters in the area.
An official of Tatanagar railway said that RCD wanted to get the old bridge buried under 15 meters soil and if it is done, then the railway pipelines that pass just beside the bridge will also get buried in the soil. As a result, if there is any problem in the pipeline in future then its repairing will become impossible.
