Rat victims not cooperating in investigations: Railways

The officials of the Ranchi Division of South Eastern Railway on Tuesday stated that retired SAIl Chief Engineer P C Sinha (71) and one of his co-passengers, who were bitten by rats in the AC first class coach of the Hatia-Howrah Kriya Yoga Express on December 30, 2015, were not cooperating with the investigators in the case.

Sinha has alleged rat bite and has sought Rs 10 lakh as compensation from the Indian Railways.  According to Railways officials there are certain points which need to be clarified. The investigation which is still going on, gives another version of the incident. When railway officials asked Sinha to present the prescription and valid documents, proving his side, Sinha denied and did not turn down when called on February 15 for investigation, they said.

“We are investigating the matter seriously, as customers satisfaction is our main motto. But the incidents which took place on December 30, has another aspect. When the railway officials investigating the matter, and asked Sinha to present the verified documents, he failed to do so. The matter creates suspicion as while investigating, Sinha was unable to answer even a simple query and was unable to show rat bite scar on any hand, creating confusion,” informed DRM, Ranchi Division, Deepak Kashyap.

Sinha who is constantly threatening the railway officials by writing to railway on the matter and constantly claiming his compensation without proving his allegation have been given another chance to be present and prove his substantial point, they said. “The probe is on and we expect Sinha to co-operate in the investigation. We have called him on February 25 with all the documents. However, we are not completely denying the charges as the matter is still under the investigation,” added Kashyap.

According to the victim, he had consulted doctor at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata and also received tetanus injection. “We have also offered him to get examined by the railway doctors but he is not turning down, the matter is lingering and creating suspicions,” added Kashyap.

However, taking the rodent mishaps seriously, the officials have considered the matter and have planned to deal with such incidents. “Rodent Control, cleaning contract will be initiated from Hatia coaching depot. The department is seriously considering the matter to control rat attacks, which severely affects passengers in several ways,” said Kashyap.
