The stage is all set up for the Rashtriya Swadeshi Mela that will start from October 10 at the Gopal Maidan in Bistupur. Inspired from the slogan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘Make in India’ the organiser Swadeshi Jagran Trust is hosting the fair.

The Rashtriya Swadeshi Mela organised by the Swadeshi Jagaran Trust is new in the city that will be inaugurated by BJP national vice president Raghubar Das on October 10 evening. The Swadeshi Jagran Manch have been organising a Swadeshi Mela for the past 12 years. This one has recently started. The fair will conclude on Oct 18.

The mega fair which is aimed to promote country made products from cottage industries and other sectors is slated to have over 300 stalls comprising an array of handloom, handicraft and other products.

Atisans from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Chhatisgarh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh will display their products, government agencies will also put up stalls.

The organisers further said the Swadeshi Mela was intended to instill confidence in micro enterprise and self help groups. It would also highlight the achievements of Indian enterprise in the wake of growing globalisation.

“Inspired by Prime Minister’s call for encouraging products which are manufactured in India only we are organizing the event. There will be craftsmen from a number of states and this will be one of the major venues to promote the ‘Make In India’ campaign,” said R.N. Prasad, chairman of the Swadeshi Jagran Trust.

Carpets from Kashmir to intricate zari work of Rajasthan and decorative pieces from Gujarat, the mela has a lot to offer by artists who have gathered from various states.

“The basic purpose behind organising the fair is to ensure a platform to the finished goods of the rural artisans and craftsman who rarely get an opportunity to sale their products during summer season,” said another functionary. He noted that  the western world is ruling the markets despite the fact that the products produced in our country are equally competitive. With increasing flow of western products multinationals are minting money at our own cost. It is our duty to consume ‘swadeshi’ products for the sake of our own people.
