Rape victim's kin allege harassment by cops, seek justice

Relatives of a four-year-old rape victim approached 'Janta Darbar' on Saturday to seek respite from police's imperious methods allegedly used against them for daring to challenge the system and opposing any conceivable attempts of suppressing their quest for justice to the victim.

The relatives-victim's aunt (mother's sister) - blamed police for acting against the principles of natural justice and harassing people standing for the victim with the intent to falsely implicate them in cases for questioning police's lethargy.

"They are trying to register cases even against those who did not take part in the protest that took place after the incident was brought to light. We would request the Minister to stop police from doing so as this is will further weaken society's resolve to speak up against the apathy of the system," said the aunt of the four-year-old victim.

The victim, a resident of village Tonki in Samlaung under Namkum police station, was allegedly raped on August 12 at a desolate place and was left in an unconscious state after the heinous act. The accused, Mukesh Roy, as claimed in a written complaint, was arrested with support from villagers. The villagers got agitated at police's slow pace of investigation and blocked Ranchi-Jamshedpur National Highway on August 13, says the complain letter. However, the activism has now come to back haunt them.

"We are being threatened by the police for blocking road to demand justice. We want the Minister to stop police from doing so," said Tirkey.

Minister Welfare, louis Marandi, who lend her ear to complainants at 'Janta Darbar' assured immunity against police's unjustified actions and vowed to take appropriate measures against police officials if found guilty of harassing relatives of the victim.

"This is a very serious matter and I have asked the SSP to provide me details of those officials who were on duty on the day of the incident. I will discuss the matter with CM also," Marandi said.

Earlier, Marandi surprised complainants with her presence contrary to the anticipation of visitors of interaction with Minister, Food and Civil Supplies, Saryu Roy and Minister, HRD, Nira Yadav to seek solutions to their problems.

Absence of Yadav disappointed visitors as most of them turned up with questions related to teachers' recruitment and alleged anomalies in the selection process.

"I came here to know why there is a delay in the process teachers' recruitment but she is not here to answer that. Anyway, the problem must be solved irrespective of who has come to hear our grievances," said Sangeeta Dubey, a resident of New Pundag.

The Janta Darbar was replete with complains of pathetic condition of water supply, electricity and demands of assistance of various nature.
