Ranchi markets are showing a very cold response to merchandising Indian Premier league (IPl) products.
The reason behind this is said to be little fervour among Ranchiites for IPl. T-shirts, caps and fancy slippers with teams’ names and logos are failing to draw the customers towards the shop, which are set to lose in the sale of the products.
Owner of Adidas showroom in church complex, Ravi Kumar said, “Adidas is supporting Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians so my shop is doomed with these teams T-shirts, caps, and sleepers as these teams are not playing well in IPl matches so this has affected the sale badly. Another reason is that no matches are played here of these teams this has also pull down the sale.” Owner of Shelly sports shop at Main Road, Kamal Khanna said, “In order to draw the customers to our shop we have lowered the price now T-shirts which were available at Rs350 in now at Rs250 but still no progress in sale graph can be seen”. Websites like Blue gape.com and eBay India are trying to lure the customers by providing attractive discount scheme like T-shirts of worth Rs999 are now available at Rs399.
Ashish Bhagat, student of BIT extension said, “IPl fever is high among the youngsters but to shop team name T-shirts or caps is a waste of money, the real excitement is to watch the match at the stadium so am looking forward for the upcoming matches in our city but not taking part in purchasing of such IPl products.”
