While addressing the nation for the fifth time amid the coronavirus outbreak on May 12, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hinted at an extension of the lockdown- the same that the country has been for the past few weeks. Ranchiites from all walks of life have hailed Modi’s speech of making a Self Reliant India or an Atma Nirbhar Bharat.
In his speech, the PM also stated that Lockdown 4 will be different from the other phases, the outline of which will be based on the suggestion given by the states and the details will be shared before May 18.
“Use of swadeshi and make in India products will be helpful for everybody. It will also make the products cheaper and more reliable. Make in India strategy will also enable women from rural areas in selling their handicrafts, handlooms and other products for its true value.
This in turn will result in the flow of money to remote areas of the country and also lead to women empowerment. In the future, these products can also be branded globally thereby giving a boost to the Indian economy,” said Putul Pandey, a home maker.
“Just like yesterday’s speech, today’s explanation by the Finance Minister comes as a disappointment for the middle class as well as the crores of migrant labouers walking to their hometowns. The stimulus for MSME’s and business is a good step but it should not be done at the cost of worker’s rights. Most of the announcements are long and medium term decisions to revive the economy but the need of the hour is immediate relief. In the words of economist John Maynard Keynes’ in the long term, we are all dead’ espically hold true during an epidemic.
The promotion of ‘Make in India’ is absolutely welcome and will definitely help to boom the confidence of every citizen,” said Amritansh Vats, Advocate Jharkhand High Court.
Industry Consultant Abhishek Sahu said, “In such times when we are trying to fight coronavirus by staying at home for almost two months, the PM’S speech focuses on making a Self Reliant India on five pillars — economy, infrastructure, system, demography and demand. Package of Rs 20 lakh crore which was also announced catering to labourers, middle class, cottage industries, MSME’s is well appreciated. Now fingers are crossed on the Finance Minister’s to throw some light on the bifurcation of funds.”
“In the PM’s speech there was no clarity on what the package would be like, who would benefit from it and when will it be rolled out. For once I found the speech to be too long and hope that Modi doesn’t make ‘mitron’ suffer too much. Even Nirmala Sitharaman’s address was not the clearest. I hope that the guidelines are shared soon. Self sufficiency is the need of the hour. Boosting local manufacturing has a lot of scope for me and my sector. So yes, am hoping for the best and looking for the economy to start moving soon,” said Ridhima, a City based fashion designer.
