In the time of pandemic people of the State celebrated Eid with maintaining social distancing. They offered prayers from their home instead of going to mosques due to lockdown imposed by the Government.
Chief Minister, Hemant Soren congratulated all the people of Jharkhand on the occasion of Eid. The Chief Minister said, “On this auspicious festival of love and brotherhood, all of you are requested to pray at home and pray for humanity and prosperity. Make distances among yourselves, but keep the hearts connected.”
Congress Legislature Party leader and Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam also offered Eid prayers at home with his family members today. On this occasion, he urged people to follow social distancing while celebrating the occasion.
The festival started with the moon being visible in the evening, people started giving Eid greetings to each other via mobile.
However, in some places people embraced each other on Eid without caring about social distancing.
In an attempt to maintain social distancing on Eid, a large numbers of police forces were deployed in the mosques and Idgah of the State so that people should not gathered to offer prayers there and norms of the social distancing should be followed.
City SP Sourabh had already said that the police appealed to the religious leaders to celebrate the festival from their home to prevent Corona virus to spread.
"This year the people are celebrating Eid by maintaining social distancing so that it is unlike the usual Eid we celebrated earlier. The financial situation of everyone has deteriorated due to the ongoing lockdown for two months. The effect of which was clearly seen on Eid," said Mohmmad Afzal resident of Bhita area at Kanke Road in the State Capital.
Keeping in view of the lockdown measures community leaders and clerics have stepped in to urge people to stay off-streets. General Secretary of Anjuman Islamia Ranchi, Mokhtar Ahmed said that at this time, the only way to prevent Corona virus is social distancing only until there is no medicine.
Ahmad had appealed to people to try to take precaution to avoid Kovid-19 like they have been treated till now. "Due to the Corona crisis in the Country, the lock-down has been extended for the fourth time till May 31, so it has been decided not to offer Eid prayers in Idgahs and Mosques under Anjuman Islamia and the Central and the State Government also forbade this," he added.
