Ranchi University (RU) is yet to take a final decision on the student union election.The matter is being delayed constantly for past few years despite being presented in the last two senate meetings held on December 2012 and April this year. The issue will again be discussed during university’s senate meet scheduled on December 7.
“We are in favour of conducting the election but students are demanding of direct elections which is against the norms of UGC. Conducting the election on indirect mode is the only option left for RU. But, it is not being agreed by most of the participating student union members. Moreover, the committee framed to look into this problem has not been able to submit their report,” said RU Pro-VC Dr Raziuddin on Tuesday.
Apart from this election, the matter of previous passed agendas by last held syndicate and academic council meetings were also discussed.
The university has also framed an overall budget of Rs 751.41 crores for 2014-15 session including salary and arrears of the teaching and non-teaching staffs.
It also includes the amount of pension and contingency. The Pro-VC said that the purpose of this syndicate meeting was to prepare for the issues will are to be discussed among the senate member on December 7.
