The progress work of Ranchi Urban Haat being constructed on rock-strewn structure without encumbering the natural rock formation is in full swing.

Being developed on a similar model of ‘Dilli Haat’, one of the most preferred shopping destinations, the consultant firm hired for designing and constructing Ranchi Urban Haat, Chadda and Associates, Head, Rajiv Chadda said that the construction work will be completed before the deadline.

After the initial hiccups, finally the construction work was taken up earlier this year. “Since the construction work is being done on rocky terrains, so initially the work progress was quite slow. Before starting the construction work in full-fledged way, we have to level the ground for constructing plinth. As pedestal task is complete now, at this moment, we are targeting to complete banquet hall, shopping centre and fountain construction work primarily,” said Chief Architect of the project Rajiv Chadda.

The foundation stone of Ranchi Urban Haat was laid by Chief Minister Raghubar Das in August 2016. The CM during the ceremony had instructed civic body of Ranchi- RMC- to complete the Urban Haat project within two year time, so that all local vendors get a permanent setup. The RMC officials too have said that their aim is to complete the project before August 2018. Deputy Mayor Sanjiv Vijayawargia said that the allotment of stalls will be decided in the RMC Board meeting once approximately 75 per cent construction work gets completed.

“This time, we are not taking this construction project work in a phase-wise manner. The project will be completed in one stretch. Around, 30-40 laborers are involved in this project,” added Chadda.

The State Capital’s first permanent Urban Haat, an open-air market is also being started with a purpose to boost tourism. Not just the local artisans but craftsmen from all the 24 districts including other States will be given the opportunity to put up their stalls here.

Covering four acres of land and being constructed at the cost of Rs. 28 crore, major fairs like Khadi Mahotsav, Saras Mela will be organised at Urban Haat. With 72 stalls each covering 100 sq. ft, four food courts covering an area of 400 sq. ft each, the Urban Haat will also have a provision of seminar hall, exhibition dome, dormitories and banquet hall.
