Ranchi University to offer law, sports courses

Ranchi University Academic Council on Thursday approved the proposal to run various courses, including law, Physical Education, Computer Application and Information Technology from the coming sessions 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Ranchi College will offer certificate, diploma, advance diploma in Computer Application and Information Technology courses from the next session. Moreover, Master in Computer Application will also commence at the college from 2013-14. This decision was taken after Ranchi College authorities sent a request to the university administration a few days ago.

An University official said that the Bachelor in Physical Education and National Cadet Corps (NCC) as an elective subject at graduation level would probably start from 2014 session since it has to be approved by the syndicate, senate, the Governor and then finally by the Human Resource Development department.

It is to be noted Ranchi College would be the first college under the university to have an undergraduate course in Physical Education. In Jharkhand, only two colleges have been selected to offer NCC as an elective subject. One is RU’s Ranchi College and another is Jamshedpur Women’s College under Kolhan University.

Considered as one of the premiere state university, RU does not have its own law department. A university official requesting anonymity said, “The decision to launch an Institute of legal Studies at Morhabadi was taken after Justice MY Eqbal’s recent visit to RU. This proposal might take time to establish.” “Probably by 2014 session, this institute offering two years ll.M will commence,” said RU Registrar Dr Amar Kumar Choudhary.

The council also gave green signal to the recommendation of the syllabus for MA Social Work prepared by Board of Studies. This master degree will also be launched at the Anthropology department in the coming days.
