The swearing-in day of Jharkhand’s first non-tribal Chief Minister Raghubar Das turned the city into a saffron fort on Sunday. The entire city was seen displaying Bharatiya Janta Party’s flags and hoardings. Young boys rode their motorbikes wearing saffron coloured t-shirts with picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the middle over their dress. The ambience, perhaps, reflected the contentment and happiness of the people for a first time majority Government in the State.
“Around 5,000 flags of our party and 1,000 hoardings of party members congratulating our Chief Minister have been put up in all the chowks (Squares) and roads of the city. It is a symbol of expressing joy,” state BJP spokesperson Pradeep Sinha said. Notably, BJP in alliance with AJSU party won 42 out of 81 seats, making it the majority coalition in the State Assembly. Similar celebration was noticed within minutes of this poll’s result announcement on December 23.
All the chowks of the city were seen bearing a big hoarding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah’s pictures conveying Aabhaar (Gratitude) on that day.
The BJP has conducted the maximum number of campaigning during the recently held Assembly polls. Also, star campaigners like Modi himself and actress Hema Malini had addressed rallies in the constituencies which were dominated by other political parties since a decade.
Modi’s speeches focusing on Jharkhand development were tuned in all the local radio stations in pre-polls as well as post-polls in regional languages. In social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, the people were seen impressed by the updates of this party on Sunday. Even in Whatsapp, the scene was almost similar.
Denizens were excited to share their opinions over telephone conversation. Mitesh Kanojiya, a former Post Graduate in Management (Human Resource) of Xavier Institute of Social Service compared CM Raghubar’s swearing ceremony with Kerala CM Oommen Chandy’s oath taking moment. He said, “BJP could have arranged the entire programme in a simple way like Chandy’s swearing-in ceremony. Publicising through flags, hoardings, parody songs and social media was not required. But, it is good that the state has finally been fortunate to have same government working at the centre level.”
Unlike Kanojiya, Pizza delivery boy Niraj Gupta, a resident of Hinoo felt the glamour may have hurt the sentiments of several tribal denizens who did not participate in the swearing ceremony nor had enjoyed formation of the new Government.
