With the aim to make Jharkhand Open Defecation Free (ODF) and to achieve State Government’s target of promoting sanitation for healthy lifestyle by October 02, 2018, Ranchi district administration will organise cleanliness camps at five different blocks from August 10 to August 18. Under the ambitious project, Swacch Bharat Mission (Gramin), the camps will sensitise people on ill effects of open defecation and will make natives aware about benefits of constructing toilets.
“Ranchi District has demarcated five blocks which include Angara, Ormanjhi, Itki, Khalari, Nagri and will organize cleanliness drive camps at these respective blocks from August 10 to August 18. The main aim to organise such camps is to sensitise and encourage people to construct toilets,” said, Ranchi DC, Manoj Kumar.
“Notably, 30 per cent crime against women takes place due to the lack of proper toilets in their respective houses. People of these blocks will be sensitized phase wise. Initiating with triggering activities which will have different programmes will make people aware about demerits of ODF, in the second phase mass level form distribution will be conducted. The details of the beneficiaries will be linked with bank account. All the beneficiaries will be entitled to get Rs. 12000 for constructing toilets,” added, Kumar.

“The district administration is targeting to construct approximately 60,000 toilets in all the five blocks. Around two lakh toilets will be constructed in Ranchi whereas 14 lakh toilets will be constructed across the state. looking at the target, the work has been distributed among various stakeholders. It was not possible for Village Health and Sanitation Committee (VHSC) to achieve the target in the stimulated time, hence other stakeholders were also included to achieve the set target,” added Kumar.
Kumar on Monday interacted with anganwadi workers, panchayat representatives, teachers and other resource personnel of different blocks to present the details of the cleanliness camps and also presented the vision of this ambitious project.
