Efforts are being made to project Ranchi as the modal town in the country by making the city rabies free in the next three years. A UK based non-government organization, Worldwide Veterinary Services (WVS), alongwith the Hope & Animal Trust is working on inoculation program for the stray dogs in Ranchi. The coveted tag of rabies free city is awarded by the WHO.
Notably, the UK based NGO has inoculated as many as 4000 stray dogs in seven working days. As per the to program, the organizations involved in the anti-rabies drive will work for three more days and will try to inoculate 1000 canines to attain the target of 5000. “The vaccine that is being used is the most expensive in India,” said the Dr luke Gamble chief executive of WVS.
Interestingly, a gigantic mobile teaching unit, purportedly largest in the world, of WVS is on its way to Ranchi to impart training to animal rescuers. “We are trying to obtain road permits for the city,” added Gamble.
