If all goes well, Ranchi could find a place in limca Book of Records and the reason would be for the ‘largest and tallest’ ever Indian Tricolour on the earth as being planned to set up by Pahari Mandir Vikas Samiti which is working on the renovation project for city’s famous temple — Pahari Mandir. Construction work for the renovation work started on Friday with the laying of foundation stone for the flagpole.
The flagpole will be placed on the Pahari Mandir and is likely to be complete before December 27. The committee has staked a claim to the ‘largest and tallest’ Indian Tricolour in the world. Both the flagpole and flag are being made by a Pune-based structural engineering company. “We have sent them a challenge to erect largest and tallest flagpole at Pahari Mandir. The officials of limca Book of Records will be present during the unfurling ceremony. The Indian Tricolour that will be put up on the pole would be largest Tricolour ever-made,” said Chairman of the Project Masterplan Subcommittee, Deepak Agarwal.
Notably, the flagpole will be 81-metre (265.74 feet) tall and the flag will 99 feet by 66 feet. The highest flagpole and flag measures 250 feet tall and 96 feet by 64 feet correspondingly put up at Faridabad in Haryana. Although, the ‘largest and tallest’ flagpole was unveiled and unfurled by BJP national president Amit Shah, the Pahari Mandir Vikas Samiti expressed that they would attempt to present the opportunity to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“We want to finish the work before December 27, so that when the PM comes to the State on an official visit, we could get it unfurled by him. As of now we have not communicated our desire to him but we will do it shortly,” said Agarwal.
The committee is also likely to approach the editors of renowned reference book, The Guinness Book of Records, to stake a claim for setting up the tallest flagpole on the geographic location. However, the decision has not been made yet by the committee as it is examining the prospects of finding a place in the renowned book published annually.
“We believe that a flagpole of this length and flag at this height which will be erected on such topography is one of its own kinds of record. We are verifying that and the moment we get a confirmation we will challenge the existing records in Guinness Book of Records also,” maintained Agarwal.
The flagpole will be constructed in parts which will be assembled and later on galvanised to give a sturdy structure that could withstand inclement weather conditions. The committee obtained a soil report of the hillock on which the temple is situated to ascertain the capacity to bear the weight of the flagpole.
