The dream of mechanised staircase has finally been materialised. After a long wait finally the moving staircase placed on platform number one and five which can be used for only upward movement was inaugurated by Ranchi Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Gajanan Mallya on Tuesday.
“It is matter of great pride that we have been able to start moving staircase which is first of its kind in the state. The escalator is going to be beneficial for senior citizens and women passengers,” said Mallya. To ensure the safety of the passengers in accessing the escalator a board has been placed on its one side mentioning the dos and don’t as a guideline for the passengers. Moreover, an instructor has been appointed to inform the people about safety buttons which are placed on both the sides of the escalator whose objective is to stop the escalator in case of any mishap. “Safety of the passenger is our prime concern, so we are making all possible efforts in making passengers friendly with the new moving stairs,” added Mallya.
The passengers are also delighted with its inauguration. They feel that it will prove beneficial for the passengers in commuting from one platform to another. A passenger at Ranchi Railway station Sheetal Sen Gupta said, “Through escalator it has become convenient for us to easily commute from one platform to another.”
Meanwhile, looking at the plight of the senior citizens in commuting from one end to the other a battery operated car has also been launched. The car will provide service to the passengers free of cost. The sitting capacity of the car is that of four passengers. Anjan Kumar Verma who will be driving the car said, “It is a pilot project if it gains popularity among the passengers.”
