After being warned by Chief Minister Hemant Soren over increasing crime graph in the capital city, Ranchi Police makes a strategic move to publicise the faces of the criminals by putting their posters at public places.
According to the police, it will help the police to get informations about those criminals who generally keep low profile after committing crimes and hide themselves among ordinary citizens. “The officer in-charge of city police stations have been asked to put posters of the wanted criminals on public places so that people get aware about these criminals who generally hide themselves among the masses,” said Ranchi City SP Manoj Ratan Chauthe.
The police believe that such move will help them getting information about the whereabouts of the wanted criminals. Being responsible citizens, it will be their duty to inform the police about their whereabouts if they come across any such faces, he added. Initially, it will be applied to hardcore criminals and after getting positive results, posters of petty criminals will also be displayed in the public. “It will help us to keep a track of the criminals. If someone comes across such an anti-social element or anyone living at his neighborhoods, they can at least inform the police about their whereabouts,” added Chauthe.
Big posters of wanted criminals or big hoardings with photographs of 8-10 criminal at a time will be put on in the city to keep the people informed about them. “This is a new step by the Ranchi Police to keep the criminals under close watch and control criminal activity in the city,” Chauthe said.
Ranchi police these days are also engaged in criminal detection and identifying criminal gangs who are involved in robbery and snatching activities and have succeeded in nabbing the culprits. “In the view of some of the recent incidents of robbery and snatching in the city, we have launched intensive search drives to nab the masterminds and petty criminals who are suspected of being involved in the crimes which took place in the city in the recent past,” said Chauthe. Intensive patrolling is also being conducted at several vulnerable pockets of the city, he added.
An extra company of Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) at the outskirts of the City has been pumped in for checking as in most of the incidents, criminals belonging to the surrounding areas of Ranchi have been found to be involved in the crimes.
“Intensive search drives are being conducted at Tupudana, Namkom, Pundag and Jagannathpur area to curb the crime in the city. Special vigil is being kept on the biker’s gang who are involved in the snatching and other criminal activities,” he said. Taking a serious view of the series of incidents of loot and crime in the State capital, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on August 5 had given a week’s ultimatum to the senior police officials to improve the law and order situation or face the music.
Expressing anger over the functioning of Ranchi police, the Chief Minister had asked the officials to create fear in the minds of criminals and create a 24x7 special cell where common man could easily register their grievances. Soren had also directed the police department to improve its intelligence network to keep a close tab on the activities of the anti-social elements and also intensify patrolling during nights.
