In a bid to make equal distribution of work and to fix a sense of responsibility among the police personnel, Ranchi police are soon to launch Beat System.
It will distribute an area coming under a Police station into several small beats. Each of the beats of around 1-1.5 square km will be put under the charge of a beat officer who is supposed to know each and every individual personally residing in his area. "Every police station will be divided into various beats giving the responsibility of each of the beats to a constable who will be known as beat officer. Although it is an age-old system introduced by the British, we are going to reintroduce it here for an effective and efficient policing in the State capital," added Prabhat Kumar, Ranchi SSP.
According to the SSP, each of the beat constables should have all the minute details about his beat making it easier for the police to reach any particular point with his help.
"It will also help the senior police officials to make equal distribution of responsibility on each of the constables and also to fix equal distribution of work with a sense of responsibility," said the SSP.
Furthermore, an ASI will be given a charge of around 4-5 beats and so on. The beat officer will be held responsible for any criminal activity taking place in his beat making him accountable for it.
Kumar further added that the beat book has been prepared in such a way that anyone can get any information regarding the area just by turning some of its pages. Kumar, however, said that it was not possible to implement the project with the present strength of police force but to begin with, the system will be implemented partly in any station area as per the availability of policemen.
