Ranchi police perplexed over double murder

Published on:

The murder case of a minor brother and sister in Ranchi has become a riddle for Ranchi police to solve as a suspect whom the police detained for questioning has not revealed anything.  The deceased Shweta Singh (17) and her brother Praveen Singh (14) were brutally murdered the early morning of Saturday at their residence at Janakpur under Pandra police outpost. They were students of DAV Bariatu.

Their mother Chanda Singh (40) was grievously injured. She is under treatment where her condition is stable.

The police detained one suspect who was once friend of Shweta. A case was earlier lodged against him for harassing Shweta. He was also arrested in another Arms Act case. But the suspect has claimed that he was not involved in the murder.

Sources in the police said that he was rigorously questioned about the incident and his involvement. But he has denied his involvement. The police have started a technical investigation to find who else had an active cell phone.

The police said that it looked like a revenge killing as the assailants had well planned to eliminate the entire family. They were also aware of the daily routine of the family members. “As if they knew that Chanda Singh woke up early in the morning around 3.30 AM. It seems that three criminals entered the house. They attacked them with knives and the blunt object causing grievous injuries leading to their death,” said sources.

The police are not sure how the assailants entered the house since there is no sign of forced entry. There is one apprehension that the accused might have scaled walls or entered through the rooftop.

The police are facing a problem as the area where the incident took place doesn’t have a single CCTV. Around 4.20 AM close door neighbours saw blood spots on the main gate of the house when they raised the alarm. The police said that the incident must have taken place before that. They also found the main gate locked from the outside.  They later on informed Sanjay Singh who is the husband of Chanda Singh lives in Dubai.
