Ranchi police have started to make all security arrangements as per the set parameters to avoid any eventuality during IPl match on May 22. A high profile team of police officials is working on to take measures for ensuring foolproof security to the cricket lovers during the match.
“Of course, we will follow the strategy adopted earlier during the matches at the JSCA Stadium with some changes according to a set parameter. We also have to bring in additional security forces as well as officials from other districts in order to provide foolproof security during the matches,” said Ranchi SSP Prabhat Kumar.
Unlike ODIs, IPl matches played in Ranchi have drawn lesser audiences and are not very profitable for the franchises. The tickets sold during the last six IPl matches, according to the officials, were also not very encouraging.
The SSP further added that the brainstorming is stall on and after a formal meeting along with the other senior officials the exact picture related to security could be cleared on Monday.
“Whether it attracts the crowd or not we have to make all our preparations according to the set norms both inside and outside the stadium to avoid any last minute rush,” added the SSP.
The proposed match on May 22 assumes greater significance as it is going to be the penultimate before the final match to be played on May 24 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Ranchi first hosted an ODI on January 19, 2013, between India and England. In November 2014, the JSCA stadium again hosted an ODI between India and Sri lanka. The JSCA has also hosted two IPl matches in 2013 — KKR vs RCB (May 12) and KKR vs Pune Warriors (May 14). last year, Ranchi hosted four CSK matches — against KKR (May 2), RR (May 13), RCB (May 18) and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
