Ranchi lake beautification to kick start from June 19

The much awaited Ranchi lake beautification project will officially begin form Monday, June 19 as the Ranchi Municipal Corporation gears up for a formal start by a higher authority. RMC Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargiya said that the lake site is being cleaned by RMC workers and the beautification process is going to start after the foundation stone laying ceremony on June 19.

The Ranchi lake, commonly known as Bada Talab, is presently being cleaned by RMC workers to start the Rs 14.42 crore plan for conservation and beautification of the British-era water body. The lake over the years has become polluted due to the discharge of untreated sewer water and waste dumped by residents, religious rituals and city waste.

The workers of Ranchi Municipal Corporation who has been cleaning the lake site since last 3 months said the work is almost done and every day the RMC sends garbage van to collect the waste but the local residents keep on polluting the area.

“The deadline provided to us is eight months but we are not sure about when the construction will be completed. Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is providing their full support. Sometimes it is hard working in the water and that too in a small space like this,” informed Mithilesh Kumar Mishra, supervisor at the construction site.

The work regarding beautification of the lake is under the RMC whereas the construction of the bridge from lake side to island and installation of the statue of Swami Vivekanand is under the Tourism Department of Jharkhand. To make it a tourist attraction for visitors the monument will be accompanied with proper lighting and illumination.  Soon, the area will be well confined to protect it from becoming a garbage dumping ground again.

The construction of bridge has already started at Bada Talab under Urmilla Construction Private limited Ranchi and the statue is being designed by Padma Shri Ram V Sutar in Noida. He is also working on the under-construction 597 feet Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue of unity in Vadodara, Gujarat.

The foundation stone for the Rs 20 crore projects for the statue of Swami Vivekananda’s statue was laid by chief minister Raghubar Das on the occasion of National Youth Day on January 12, marking the 154th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
