City denizens dedicated the special Sunday to India and Pakistan’s ODI match at Adelaide in Australia. Since morning, the prominent roads and streets of the Capital City wore a deserted look. And, with Team India’s win, Ranchi was soaked in celebrations with people coming out celebrating the historic victory. Housewives were seen exchanging messages with friends on Whatsapp. School and College goers kept updating themselves either by watching television or with live match streaming on internet. Professionals working even on Sunday kept updating with the minute to minute inputs on ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 website.
The traffic on the streets was hardly visible in any part of the Capital. “The crowd is comparatively low on Sundays but today it seemed like a bandh,” said Rani Sahu, a post graduate student of Ranchi Women’s College. Shutters of most of the grocery shops were opened after 5pm when Team India defeated their arch rival Pakistan. Small kids undergoing cricket training at Morhabadi in the early hours of the morning were confident about the match. They said they were sure that Team India will create history like previous World Cup matches against Pakistan.
Veteran Coach of Jharkhand State Cricket Association, Manik Ghosh felt the match would decide the future of both the teams in the upcoming matches of the tournament. Argora Coaching Centre near India’s Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s home declared Sunday as holiday for the players on the occasion. After Team India’s win, dozens of young boys were seen burning crackers in front of Dhoni’s residence. As the day turned to dark, the volume of cracker burning increased.
Meanwhile, members of Dhoni Fans Club started gathering on Albert Ekka Chowk when Pakistan was about to lose its last player from the field. Club’s president Jitendra Singh distributed sweets and fire-crackers among the residents and members at the Chowk. They expressed the excitement by flying Indian Flags along with green, saffron and white balloons. Singh is hopeful that the team will bag the World Cup Trophy like 2011. He said, “This year also Dhoni’s captainship like the last World Cup might prove lucky for Team India.”
