Ranchi accounts for 33% of total Covid deaths in State

State Capital Ranchi has emerged as the epicenter of corona related deaths in Jharkhand. Ranchi has reported a maximum of more than 1,500 deaths due to corona in the State, followed by East Singhbhum which accounts for 965 deaths till date. Ranchi accounts for 33 per cent of total corona deaths in the State.

Experts opine that the second wave of corona has remained much deadlier than the first wave with state particularly Ranchi accounting more deaths in just two months than  past twelve months  since the epidemic broke out in State in March last year. Ranchi at present stands with 5,030 active cases, out of total 83,383 corona cases reported till date. However, the big relief is that 76,864 persons have recovered from infection.

As per a State bulletin released by the health department, on Sunday evening 159 fresh positive cases were reported across the state while at the same time 609 persons recovered from infection. At the same time 12 died due to infections in the past 24 hours.

Sources said fewer cases are reported due to the restricted lockdown imposed by the state government. An Indian Medical Association (IMA) doctor associated with the state government agencies engaging in compiling figures requesting anonymity said,

“The drop in positive cases across the State particularly in Ranchi is due to strict lockdown. As there is less movement of people it has helped in breaking the chain of infections, but we are scared that once the Government lifts lockdown it will again lead to a surge in cases as infection has reached to villages and in that situation it will be a tough task for the government to contain the spread of infections.” Till April 1, the total deaths in Ranchi was 259, with 1,562 active cases, however, by mid April there was a surge in death in the last 45 days; around 1,250 people have lost their lives in the State Capital.

Followed by Ranchi, East Singhbhum which accounts for maximum deaths on April 1, 357 people had in the past one year due to corona infection but in just 45 days, more than 650 people have lost their lives due to corona infections.

However, there are districts which have reported death in single digit. Pakur in Santhal Pargana has reported only seven deaths till date. Followed by Ranchi, the district which has reported very less death is Sahibganj which has reported only 41 deaths till date.  Dumka, another district of Santhal Pargana, has reported fewer deaths with the district accounting for only 44 deaths. In Chotanagpur division, Gumla is the district which has accounted for fewer deaths as only 34 deaths.
