Ramgarh boy 24- year old Shubham Singh underwent a critical surgery in Ranchi on August 21 and came out of it victorious. The boy had suffered a road accident in 2013 after which the doctors had put a cemented plate to fix the bones.
The said plate had been causing infection and upon visiting various doctors and multi specialty hospitals across the country, it was Dr Nitish Priya, Orthopedic and a Joint Replacement Surgeon at Hill View Hospital Ranchi who conducted the surgery successfully.“A reputed surgeon had operated him in 2013 after the accident but just six months after the surgery it got infected. We visited numerous doctors in Ranchi and even went to Vellore in 2018 for his treatment but nothing came out of it as the infection had spread a lot. At one point of time we also thought that maybe his leg would have to be removed,” said the patient’s father Kamal Singh.
The father further informed that an acquaintance advised them to get in touch with Life Savers’ Atul Gera suggesting that he might be of some help. “It was Atulji who got us in touch with Dr Nitish Priya who conducted the surgery successfully.
The two of them have been like a God sending to us and we are extremely thankful to them. They even helped us in managing the expenses and we did not have to pay a single rupee for the entire process,” added an emotional Singh who is a door to door salesman.
The surgery lasted for about four hours and the patient had been kept in the ICU under observation for three days after the operation. “The boy had a nail in his thigh which had been stuck there for about seven years. He had multiple surgeries and half of the nail had been removed while half had got stuck. I just happened to be lucky to be able to remove it. Presently the boy has been prescribed antibiotics and we are hoping that the infection does not reoccur,” said Priya.
During the course of the surgery as many as four units of blood was administered to the patient that was provided by Sadar Hospital, Ranchi.“Because of his leg, the boy was unable to continue with his studies and his education was getting severely hampered. When the family contacted me, I got in touch with my friend Ashish Budhia who willingly opted to bear the expenses for the surgery. We just wish him a speedy recovery and a bright future”, said Atul Gera, volunteer at Life Savers, Ranchi.
