With Governor Syed Ahmed’s sanction of 90.14 acres campus land located at Cheri in Kanke block to Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi (IIM-R) on Friday, the premiere Business school is looking forward to adopt rainwater harvesting facilities here similar to Central University of Jharkhand’s (CUJ) permanent campus being constructed in the same locality.

Speaking about the environmental opportunities at Cheri, IIM-R Director MJ Xavier conceded, “The wonderful land allotted to us has wide opportunities for rainwater harvesting set up. We will be beginning with the construction soon. In fact, CUJ’s initiative to work for rainwater harvesting has inspired us to do the same.”

It is to be noted, IIM-R has got the GM land at free of cost. According to Xavier, the institute’s yet to begin Cheri campus will be constructed on the central Government funds. “We have received Rs 600 crores from the Union Human Resource Development Ministry for the next five years so there is enough money available for our infrastructure expenses,” Xavier said.

As an official team visit to Cheri campus for development planning and others required research considerations, a group of IIM-R administrative officials visited Cheri on July 6 after which the decision to establish eco-friendly campus was taken under the aegis of MJ Xavier.

On June 27, a high-level committee comprising State Revenue and land Reforms, State Human Resource Development, District Administration along with Planning and Development department officials had sent the proposal to Governor for approving the proposed campus of IIM-R at Cheri.
