Even though monsoon knocks on Jharkhand’s door, rain is unlikely to play a spoilsport at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s International Yoga Day programme at Prabhat Tara Ground here on Friday, weather scientists from the Meteorological Centre in Ranchi said on Wednesday.
All eyes will be on Ranchi on June 21, when Modi will practice Yoga along with at least 30,000 Jharkhandis at the ground in Dhurwa.
And as per the predictions, weather Gods have spared the duration of the event from interruptions due to rain. Ranchi, scientists said, will witness moderate to heavy rainfall on Thursday evening and Friday late afternoon. However, the chances of rain on Friday morning are bleak, they added.
R S Sharma, the weather forecast officer of MET centre in Ranchi, said that the weather might get cloudy during the event but rains are unlikely. “The weather will be cloudy during the event, but we do not see any chances of heavy rains during the event on Friday morning,” he said.
The grand International Yoga Day event is scheduled to begin at 6.30 am on Friday and conclude by 7.35a m. The event will take place under the surveillance of at least 4000 security personnel from State police and central forces.
The Special Protection Group (SPG) has already done a recce of the venue and the District Administration is making elaborate plans to ensure zero lapses during the programme.
Despite rains unlikely to affect the event, Chief Secretary D K Tiwari has asked the concerned officials to make arrangements to ensure smooth proceedings at the event in case of an uninvited spell of rain. As per predictions made by the MET centre in Ranchi, monsoon is likely to arrive in Jharkhand on June 22. Prior to its arrival, parts of the State will witness pre-monsoon showers.
PM Modi will land in Ranchi on Thursday and stay at Raj Bhawan in the night. Next morning, he will attend the Yoga Day event and leave for New Delhi on the same day.
This will be one of the rare occasions when Ranchi will become the centre of attraction for the entire world.
The International Yoga Day, celebrated across the globe on June 21, was first observed in 2015 after the United Nations General Assembly unanimously decided to dedicate a day to Yoga.
