The district administration has deployed Rapid Action Force ( RAF) after tension gripped Sonari locality following clash between the members belonging to two communities on Sunday morning.
In the clash several people, including two women were injured. Sources said one of the contentious akharas—lahiri Akhara, had a small faction from youths belonging to minority community.
During a back-to-back Jhanda procession between lahiri Akhara and the rival Ganesh Akhara, the organisers of the former (lahiri Akhara) wanted to move ahead the latter. And the members of lahiri Akhara, including those from the minority community roughed up the members of Ganesh Akhara. Which led to a face-off between the two Akhara last night. But the situation was brought under control after police intervened immediately, and the Jhanda procession was completed without any further problem.
Deputy superintendent of police (headquarters—II) Rajkishore Prasad claimed to have deployed the rapid action forces after a group clash between two communities as there was chances of spinning the situation out of control.
"In the clash, five persons, including two women have sustained minor injuries. But as the situation was still tense, we have deployed Rapid Action Force at the area," said Prasad.
Speaking about the cause of clash, the senior police officer said that participation of some youth belonging to the minority community in the lahiri Akhara might be the reason.
"We are investigating the incident and we in touch with both the communities, and an amicable solution will be found out to resolve the issue," the DSP said.
