After declaration of results of civic poll 2013 and distribution of certificates to the winning candidates, race for vice chairman’s chair has begun in Hazaribagh. Though this post is not so lucrative but last term’s story has made it so important here that most of the re-elected councilors and even first term councilors are seriously thinking to jump into the fray.
In civic polls 2008, the post of vice-chairman was an open post and like chairman he was also elected for this post everywhere in Jharkhand. In Hazaribagh and some other places the elected vice chairman with the help of councilors deserted the directly elected Chairman. After these incidents the previous Munda government changed the law and now it is very difficult to dethrone an elected chairman.
According to changed law this time the post of vice chairman will go to the ward councilor who will get support of majority of councilors. So it is certain that no new face is going to appear now and the battle will be between known faces. On April 11 results were declared and from April 12 discussions regarding this post started.
Names of some old councilors like Pankaj Kumar Gupta, Anjay Kumar Paswan, Sumitra Devi, Kajal Mukherjee and some new councilors like Neelima Anant, Kamal Gope, Prafful Kumar is in discussions which has just started now.
This time BJP will also try its best to capture the chair. Chairperson is a known BJP worker and if Vice Chairperson will be their party man then it will be a completely saffron municipal council this time. At least 6-8 known BJP workers have been elected councilors this time and some are close to them so the battle will be interesting because it is once again going on the path of BJP Vs Congress + JVM contest.
