Jharkhand Badminton Association (JBA) has roped in Sachin Kumar Rana, who has worked with Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu and other top Indian shuttlers to hone skills in the steel city cradle. The tie-up is for its new training centre, which will start functioning shortly. JBA secretary K Prabhakar Rao said at a Press meet that the new training centre at Mohan
Ahuja Stadium in Jamshedpur is getting ready.
Rana has been appointed as full time chief coach and will be assisted by three assistant coaches, including two from Ranchi and Kharagpur. East Singh Badminton Association president Rajiv Sengupta and secretary Alok Nobel were also present at the press meet.
He went on to inform training will for basic (7-10 age group), intermediate (13-15) and advance (15-plus) category of trainees. As per the plans experts PGS Murty (Jamshedpur), Ravi Kesri (Ranchi) and Subho Das (Kharagpur) will be supporting Rana.
Fee structure for the basic is `2,500 per month, while it is `5,500 per month for intermediate trainees. Advance training carries a price tag of `6,500 per month. “Considering the requirement of the city we have kept the fee half of what is charged by cradles in some metro cities,” Rao added.
According to Rao, JBA will accommodate outstation trainees at residential flats which would be taken on rent. “To ensure accommodation facilities we have also zeroed three flats in the city and would shortly work out the rent to be taken from the trainees,” he added.
Rana, who was also present at the press meet, said there is an immense potential in the State. The need is to provide better training. As per my understanding badminton coaching is not imparted in a professional manner in Jharkhand. We need to add more facilities and provide better training.”
