Public service not new for us: Salomi

Former Maoist Marshal Tuti’s wife Salo gives credit to the almighty for fielding her on Tamar Assembly seat. Tuti, who has fielded was a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate, believes that public service was not new for her as she and her husband had earlier been struggling hard for the cause of the people.

“Whatever we are today has been given by the almighty as we never thought of reaching to this position where we will get a chance to serve our people,” said Salomi. If I get elected from Tamar, I will work for the uplift of the people of this area, she added.

She further said that she will go to the people of Tamar seeking votes against the basic issues of the area like poverty and unemployment in the area. “We will try to remove poverty and unemployment which is rampant in the area so that the youth of this area do not get diverted from the mainstream anymore,” said Salomi.

Tuti’s husband, presently lodged in Hazaribagh Open Jailhad surrendered in August 2010. He was active in Bundu-Tamar region from where she has been chosen as a candidate by the JMM. According to Salomi, she has joined politics for the noble cause of uplifting the living conditions of the people of her constituency.

“My husband has worked a lot along with the people of the area while remaining in the organization (CPI-Maoist). I am also contesting on this seat for a greater cause in the interest of the people of the constituency,” said Salomi.

Tuti has been fielded strategically on Tamar seat by JMM against the sitting Tamar MlA and former minister Gopal Krishna Pater alias Raja Peter. JMM supremo Shibu Soren had to resign from the post of Chief Minister in the year 2009 following a defeat on the hands of Pater by a margin of 9,062 votes.

Salomi however, gives a different reason for joining the party. Joining JMM was a decision taken after looking back at the track record of the party which has struggled a lot for several years for people’s cause and has fielded reformed rebels earlier in the past also during the elections, she added.

“Since JMM is a regional party, it has earlier given a chance to those who got diverted from the mainstream and willing to join the mainstream. Being the wife of reformed Maoist, I decided to go along with this party and contest the election,” said Salomi.

Salomi also has been struggling hard since long to get her dues under the scheme ‘Nai-Disha’ under which her husband surrendered. She also raised her voice against the state police for not keeping its promises made while making the Maoists surrender. Of the four reformed rebels contesting elections for the second Jharkhand assembly in 2009, Paulush Surin was elected from Torpa assembly.

The JMM has also given tickets to Yugal Pal, Satish jee and Masi Charan Purti during previous elections and have no hesitation in giving tickets to transformed Maoists.
