PTR's ‘wall' irks J’khand Assembly's General Purpose Committee

An 86 lakh rupees worth concrete wall measuring 600 meters in compartment 2 of the Betla National Park of Palamu Tiger Reserve is talked about more in jeers, said sources.

Jharkhand assembly's General Purpose Committee headed by Saryu Roy who was in Betla recently had taken a serious note of this wall which has cost the government its 86 lakhs of rupees.

Chairman of this committee Saryu Roy MLA Jamshedpur East said the committee is not convinced about this multi lakh wall in the Betla National Park.

Roy said he would be writing to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)  of India for a special audit of the tiger reserve Palamu.  He said the expenditures done here in all these years do not reflect on the happy status of the tiger reserve.

It is perhaps the most ill managed tiger reserve in the country where officers having no expertise in wildlife are calling shots.

The Chairman also felt the silivi culture done  in the tiger reserve also calls for a thorough analysis and appraisal.

D S Srivastav a noted wildlife expert said the construction of wall across compartment 2 of the Betla National Park belies all logic and only 'the noble officials' of the park can only tell as to what purpose this multi lakh wall is to serve.

Srivastav said this expenditure is a criminal waste of government money besides 'a concrete intervention' with the habitat and passage of the wild life.

Srivastav said the government should not hesitate in recovering the money spent on it from officers or officers who are responsible for raising the wall.
