Though elections for mayor for Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) are yet to be announced by state election commission prospective candidates have started campaigning here with a view that elections are likely to be held soon after monsoon .
As the state government has already announced this time it would be party-less elections, this has given a chance to many to stand for contest. The most surprising announcement came Tuesday evening when former chairman of BIADA Bijay Jha announced his candidature amidst media persons .
Jha, a former BJP leader, had left the party over some issues. His wife Dr Shivani Jha, a prominent gynaecologist of Katras area, had contested first held in 2010 and was in second position then.
Talking to the media Jha said,"In view of the recent developments during the panchayat polls forced me to think and to stand for the elections ".
Jha,who also is an advocate, hopes to get support from the masses in view of his social activities across the district.
It's worth mentioning that Baghmara MLA Dhullu Mahto is all set to field his wife Savitri Devi for the post. Mahto has succeeded in securing victory of district board and panchayat representatives of his choice during the recently concluded panchayat elections .This has given a boost to the prospect of Savitri Devi.
Besides, these prospective candidates include former mayor CS Agarwalla, BJP leaders BhriguNath, Ankesh Raj, Congress leaders Shamsher Allam besides some prominent persons like AK Sahay, KP Singh are also eyeing for the post.
Some of these have launched campaign trails that are at least four months ahead of the actual elections and they can hold meetings at all 55 wards to express their views among the masses.
