MP Ramtahal Choudhary urged the farmers to minimize the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides as it is the main reason behind increasing health problems. He suggested using organic manure made of cow dung and urine and compost made of kitchen wastes which are the best source for getting nutritious farm produce, free of poisonous chemicals.
Chaudhary was addressing the second day of three-day Agrotech Kisan Mela at Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) on Sunday. He said, “I never use chemicals in my kitchen garden. Our ancestors never fell ill or required spectacles even at the age of 100 because chemical fertilizers and pesticides had not intruded in the farmers back then.”
He advocated for more respect, recognition and incentives for women engaged in farming as major responsibility of increasing farm production and productivity in Jharkhand lies on women.
Chaudhary also honoured 15 progressive farmers and distributed prizes among the winners of animal and bird show organized on the occasion. Altogether 312 entries of animal farmers were registered at the show. Kanke MLA Jitu Charan Ram stressed on promoting integrated farming for sustainable return to farmers. BAU Vice Chancellor Dr Parvinder Kaushal said the University, besides producing technical human resource required for the State, works as the agricultural research advisor of the state government and is making every effort for doubling farmers’ income.
