Asia’s largest industrial belt, Adityapur Industrial Area is back on the production track. With 80,000 workers back to work, the manufacturing units have revamped their production. Boosted by fresh orders, several industries are also running night shifts to meet the deadlines.
City’s leading commercial vehicle maker, Tata Motors has given new orders to manufacture spare parts of 170 trucks per day to the ancillary units. The industrialists are hopeful that with fresh orders production will recover 80 per cent by the end of October.
An industrialist, who owns an ancillary unit of Tata Motors in Adityapur, said: “The SME sector is dependent on heavy industries in Jamshedpur. Due to lockdown there was a slump in production. However, the industries have started giving us fresh orders that are helping us to boost production. We are confident that we will be able to recover the production loss by October”.
The sprawling Adityapur Industrial Area houses 1300 units- including 100 large-scale, 550 small scale and 350 tiny industries and most of these units depend on Tata Motors. A few important industries that have global presence are Usha Martin Group, RSB Group, Tata Steel Growth Shop(TGS) etc., too situated in this industrial belt, situated in Seraikela-Kharsawan. There are 20 industries, which export its products to the USA, Australia and other European countries.
Sources informed that Tata Motors has also plans to manufacture about 250 vehicles per day from October at its plant and most of the work order will be given to its ancillaries at Adityapur. The move will further improve the industrial activities at the manufacturing hub.
Tata Motors produces truck and bus chassis of various models by sourcing parts of the vehicles produced in the ancillary units in the Adityapur industrial area. After the lockdown started on March 25, assembling work at the Tata Motors plant came to a standstill. Ancillary units in Adityapur where some 1 lakh workers work also stopped to function. However, with the third phase of unlocking industrial units are back on the track.
“We expect a fresh growth in the manufacturing sector at Adityapur with Tata Motors planning to enhance production. Workers are returning back to work. The move will help to provide fillip to industrial growth in Jharkhand," said Santosh Khetan, Adityapur Small Industries Association (ASIA) functionary and ancillary unit owner.
