Chhota Bheem and Dhoom 3 scenes have managed their popularity on plastic kites these days. In the last one month, Talib Patang House, the oldest kite seller has sold around 30,000 kites of such Bollywood and cartoon characters. The present season devoted to kites is a hit with such contemporary choice, claim the owners of kite house.

“last year Chinese kites were in huge demand. But, this year it seems Chota Bheem, Mowgli, Mr Bean, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Salman Khan have made a soft corner among kids and teenagers. Customers of this genre search for plastic kites printed with their faces or a scene of their heroic performance,” said Mohammed Arif, the owner of this shop.

Noticing this love for printed kites, Arif was ordered to supply kites of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s face during his visit to Ranchi on December 29. He said, “When AAP party won New Delhi’s election, we supplied thousands of kites bearing faces of AAP members to its local party members. Prior to Modi’s visit, some leaders came and requested to supply about 4,000 plastic kites mentioning Modi as Gujarat ka Sardar (leader of Gujarat) to various retailers across Ranchi, Gumla and lohardaga districts.”

“Presently we are receiving orders from city schools for printed kites of mentioned Bollywood actor kites. Mothers come and purchase cartoons kites on birthday occasions of their children,” added Arif. These kites available between Rs 1 to 20 are preferred more from the customers. Arif mentioned that though prices exceed till Rs 100 but the ones between Rs 1 to 20 are being sold like hot cakes. Apart from this plastic kites, a special named ‘Candle Kite’ which can be played during night hours is also gaining popularity.

“This paper made candle kite is fixed on a rectangular wax piece which is lit in the mid point. The big rounded kite then rises above five to six feet above the ground. We have already sold 1,000 pieces and are lining up to bring more. The cheap cost of Rs 60 is probably the main reason of this purchasing demand,” Arif maintained.
