Taking strong exception to burning effigies and staging demonstrations at busy squares in the city, the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FJCCI) wrote a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi Vinay Kumar Choubey seeking his intervention in curbing the practice in the larger interest of the public.
In their communiqué the FJCCI held political parties responsible for the inconvenience caused to a commuter including school children who often get trapped for hours in the traffic congestion as a result of political rallies. Businessmen also suffer due to traffic congestion, said the communiqué. The letter also informed the DC of court’s order to keep Ranchi’s Main Road free from processions and demonstrations besides reminding him of the administration’s failure to honour the judgment.
Significantly, the FJCCI has put few suggestions to keep the road free from congestion which includes permitting marriage convoy and death processions only on Main Road, Circular Road, Katchary Road, Ratu Road and Upper Bazaar area. Chamber requested the DC to not allow anyone to burn effigies at Albert Ekka Chowk and providing a dedicated place for burning effigies near Mahatma Gandhi statue in Morhabadi.
Interestingly, the chamber suggested taking social and religious bodies into confidence to implement the suggestion.
