Pressure groups unearth scams, not parties: Kiran Bedi

First lady IPS and social activist Dr Kiran Bedi on Wednesday said that pressure groups comprising civil societies, Supreme Court, Comptroller and Auditor General, media and PIls have contributed in unearthing corruption across the nation. She was reacting to UPA Government’s report card release on May 22.

“UPA has to submit the lokpal status report bill to the Supreme Court by July. Supreme Court had quoted ‘CBI is a caged parrot’. Once lokpal Bill is implemented such statements would be substantiated by lokpal,” said Dr Bedi.

On the IPl spot fixing scandal, Bedi agreed with the Board of Control for Cricket in India Chairperson’s statement that IPl cannot be banned because of the irregular activities of few people. Bedi said, “After 15 days we all will come to know about this matter.”

Kiran Bedi was at the State capital to distribute vocational undergraduate and post graduate scholarships like B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, BBA, BCA, B.ed, Nursing and Polytechnic to marginalised meritorious children of Jharkhand for admission in an unaided group of colleges (Aryans group of colleges) at Chandigarh. Her NGO Navjyoti Foundation is associated with this private institution in selecting and awarding these scholarships.

Under this scheme, the fees of the student are paid in three parts. One third parts is individually paid by the Aryans group, bank and the students.

Bedi considers that education has been the biggest profession for her. She felt that tribals of this region are not aware of this scheme. According to Bedi, Ranchi has very good schools and it is important to aware needy intellectuals passing out from these schools to know about such private and government based reserved quota scholarships so that they too can earn a prospective career.

“Students now must not owe the mentality of restricting their career within bureaucracy. Infact, students must think of creating job for themselves like starting their own school after a B.ed degree or setting up a computer class after grabbing a computer application degree,” Bedi conceded.

The private institution in collaboration with Bedi’s NGO had indentified 15 such needy children in Jharkhand. Within one month, more 35 children would be felicitated with this scholarship. On this occasion, Shifa Khan, former topper of Commerce in Intermediate from Cambrian Public School and B.Com topper from St. Xavier’s College was awarded 100 percent meritorious scholarship to pursue her MBA in Aryans group of Colleges.
