Power generation stops at DVC's 500 MW ‘A’ plant

Published on:

Power generation has come to a complete standstill due to tube leakage at DVC's 500 MW 'A' plant located at Bokaro Thermal here on Sunday. The plant was generating electricity with a capacity of 491 MW before the production was stopped, said A.P.Singh, Chief Engineer cum project head.

DVC sources said that in addition to tube leakage in the boiler area of the plant, electricity generation is stopped due to sparking in a heavy transformer. The local management is supplying electricity to the plants and colonies by taking electricity from the national grid.

Sources said that due to torrential rains on July 30, four gates of DVC Bokaro Thermal Barrage have been broken and washed out.  It was already being said that for the repair of the gate, it is necessary to drain the water, only then the repair of the gate can be done.

This is the barrage gate of DVC built in Bokaro-Konar river. In 1991-92, even during the tenure of then Chief Engineer B.P. Singh, 19 gates of the barrage were damaged due to torrential rains, due to which the entire water of the river was washed away.  In those days, power generation from both A and B plants had come to a standstill.

The situation is such that the local employees of BTPS, who built the barrage gates, have already retired.  In such a situation, the work of the gate will start only after the expert comes from Maithon, said the CE & PH.

Apart from Bangladesh, the electricity generated from DVC is supplied to Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, Delhi Discoms, West Bengal through transmission grid lines.  Apart from this, electricity is also supplied to small and big factories including Railways, CCL, BCCL, SAIL, Tata Steel, Jindal Steel Company, government and non-government institutions.
