Power crisis hits Jamshedpur, industrial units worst-affected

Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam limited (JUVNl) command areas in the city and its adjoining areas faced an acute power crisis following erratic electricity generation at the Tenughat Vidyut Nigam limited (TVNl).

Sources at the Central load Despatch (ClD), informed that TVNl was unable to generate adequate power leading to short-supply in the two power grid sub-stations at Golmuri and Gamharia. While the JUVNl command areas require about120-130 MW power, it is getting a supply of 70-80 MW, leading to erratic supply.

Supply restrictions from the ClD has hampered power supply since Saturday at places like Mango, Adityapur, Parsudih, Chhogagovindpur, Sonari, Jugsalai,  Sundernagar , Ghorabandha and several other places.

The Gamharia and the  Golmuri power grid sub-stations have been badly hit by the problems at the TVNl, said JUVNl officials. However, they added that efforts are on to streamline the power supply.

Production process in the small industries at Adityapur in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district were affected due to the power crisis. “ The power crisis has returned to haunt us. With the beginning of summer season the situation arise. Production got affected in  several industries, which does not have diesel generator sets. local JUVNl officials assured us that power supply was expected to improve from tomorrow,” said a spokesperson of Adityapur Small Industries Association (ASIA).

A senior JUVNl official of Singhbhum electricity supply area RJ Singh said, “We are aware of the situation. The power crisis was due to the fault in TVNl. Efforts are being made to streamline power supply as early as possible.”

The industrial units at Adityapur and Gamharia, which are dependent on JUVNl, also faced problems.

“The situation is really pathetic in the country’s biggest industrial hub. Gamharia grid that feeds the Adityapur Industrial Area normally requires an average 130 mega watt but at present the grid is receiving only 40 to 50 mega watt resulting in industries to cut production. Apart from the alternative hour power cut, electricity goes off any time before and after it at unscheduled hours, hitting our production badly,” said an industrialist of Adityapur Industrial Area.
