Hundreds of civil, criminal, accident claim cases and family disputes have been settled at the massive lok Adalat held at the district court on Sunday. A large crowd of complainants regarding bank loan and electricity bills thronged the camp.
In the lok Adalat, held after a long time, people who have taken housing, vehicle and other loans from banks were the most disturbed ones. Suresh Thandi of Nehru Nagar said that he had taken Rs 50,000 loan from the SBI branch at MG Road for operating a grocery shop. He was repaying instalment for about five years. The bank had also told him to give him relaxation of Rs 15,000.
But, now the bank has sent him notice for deposit of Rs 52,100. He said that his shop had been closed down and how he could repay the amount. Rakeshpuri Goswami of Changorabhatta said that he had purchased a loading minidor after taking Rs 5 lakh loan from State Bank. After operating the vehicle for about eight months, the bank seized the vehicle and after some time sold it out. Now, the bank has been asking him to deposit Rs 5 lakh.
There was no account of the instalment he had deposited in the bank. The bank manager is beating around the bush in this regard. As the issue could not be settled in the camp, he was being asked to be present at the bank, he added.
Similarly, several people have approached the camp with inflated electricity bills. The officer of electricity department was trying to settle the cases at the lok Adalat. Though several cases have been settled, many of them could not be solved. Camps of Grameen Bank, BSNl, private mobile companies and Citi Finance Company have also been organised at the lok Adalat.
Hundreds of people have reached the camp for settlement of family dispute cases. Satroopa Daharia from Kattiya has been fed-up with the drinking and quarrelling habit of her husband. Along with her 3-year-old daughter, she is at her parents’ home since last two years. After reaching a settlement by both the sides, now she is ready to leave with her husband.
Rekha Yadav of Changorbhatta had a dispute with two women of her neighbourhood. Both the sides had quarreled over some petty dispute of children. In the meanwhile, one of the women from the other side assaulted Rekha with a sickle. The case has been brought to the lok Adalat, but not settlement has been reached so far.
