After Janta Dal United (JDU) deciding to contest the upcoming Assembly elections in four States of Jharkhand, Delhi, Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) on its own, the JDU State unit has started preparations for year-end Assembly elections. At the JDU national executive meeting in Patna on Sunday presided by JDU national president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Central leadership asked its respective State presidents to start preparations for elections after identifying the seats to contest in four States.
JDU Jharkhand unit president, Salkhan Murmu who attended the national executive meet talked about the priorities and challenges of JDU in Jharkhand. He said, “Jharkhand since its inception has seen all different Governments. These Governments at different period of times have been directly or indirectly supported by BJP, Congress, JMM, JVM and AJSU party. But all these parties who had tasted the power have failed to address people’s issues, especially those of tribals and Moolvasis.”
Murmu further said, “We will go to people on this issue urging the people that they have seen successive governments headed by different political parties, but all these parties have failed to fulfill the aspirations of people. As they have given chances to all political parties they should at least give a chance to JDU too.”
The JDU State unit plans to reach out to people on Nitish’s development model and party pledge to protect Jal Jungle Jameen. Nitish Kumar has been Chief Minister of Bihar since November 2005 till date. Only for a brief period (May 2014 to January 2015) Jitan Ram Manjhi was chief minister of State, when Nitish resigned from his post taking moral responsibility after facing defeat in Lok Sabha elections. However, in 2015 Assembly election he bounced back to power.
Nitish’s development model revolves around girls and women empowerment, apart from keeping a tab on law and order situation in State.
The JDU to strengthened party in Jharkhand has decided to carry out membership drive which will be launched by JDU Jharkhand in-charge Ram Sewak Singh on June 16. As part of membership drive, the party leaders will be given the task to enroll at least six members from every village in State to party fold.
Similarly, the party will set up booth committees at all 81 Assembly constituencies. The Assembly in-charge will be given the task of making booth committees.
The JDU’s strategy is to strengthen the party in tribal dominated Assembly segments as in Lok Sabha election BJP performance was not good. Out of five tribal Lok Sabha seats, while the BJP lost two the three seats which the Saffron party won with slender margin.
